PADI Rescue Diver

Strengths

Strengths
- Published entry pathway from Open Water
- Three confined-water and three open-water sessions listed by SSI
Limits
- Current first-aid certification is required
- Meeting entry criteria does not replace water confidence
Best for: Divers ready for rescue practice who have an SSI centre offering a suitable schedule.
Send your certification details and first-aid completion date to the instructor. If your training came from another agency or first-aid provider, ask for written confirmation that it satisfies the course requirements.
Do not assume a centre’s advertised package includes the first-aid component. Ask whether it is taught alongside rescue, booked separately or accepted from an existing qualification.
Ask about the locations used for scenarios, group size and opportunities to repeat skills after feedback. Find out how the training will relate to the shore entries or boat diving you normally do.
Our recommendation is to value thoughtful debriefing and repeated practice. A busy timetable can look impressive without telling you how much individual coaching each student receives.

Choose the programme whose entry requirements you meet and whose instructor can explain the practical teaching in detail. Keep practising afterwards with appropriate supervision and refresh your first-aid skills.
