Regulator Servicing in Australia
Who services which brands, what oxygen cleaning involves, and why selling a regulator is not the same as servicing it.
Not every service technician works on every brand. Manufacturers restrict parts supply and training, which means a shop that happily sells you a regulator may not be authorised to service it.
That is the single most useful thing to establish before buying: who, locally, can service this equipment, and how long does it take?
For technical divers there is an additional layer, because oxygen-compatible servicing requires different lubricants, components and handling from ordinary recreational work.
Some businesses sell equipment and send servicing elsewhere. That is not necessarily a problem, but it changes turnaround times and it matters if you need work done between weekend dives.
Ask directly whether servicing is done on site, and by whom.
Buying decisions should account for how the equipment will be supported over its life, not just its performance out of the box.

Technical divers may need first stages suited to specific hose configurations, and separate oxygen-clean regulators for decompression gases.

How often should I service my regulator?
Manufacturer schedules typically specify annually or after a set number of dives, and warranty conditions often depend on adherence. Divers who dive infrequently still need periodic servicing because seals degrade with time.
Can any shop service any brand?
No. Parts supply and technician training are restricted by manufacturers, so check which brands a workshop is authorised to handle.
What is oxygen cleaning?
The removal of hydrocarbon contaminants and use of oxygen-compatible lubricants and components, so equipment can safely handle high-oxygen gas. It is a distinct service from standard servicing.
