Professional Association of Diving Instructors
PADI
The largest recreational training network worldwide, with the widest presence across Australian dive centres.
PADI is the most widely represented training agency in Australia and internationally, which means its certifications are recognised essentially everywhere and its course structure is the one most divers encounter first.
Its programmes run from introductory experiences through recreational certification, professional ratings and the TecRec technical pathway, alongside freediving and rebreather programmes.
The scale is both the strength and the thing to be careful about: a PADI logo tells you the standards a course follows, not the quality of the instructor teaching it or the facilities behind them.
| Full name | Professional Association of Diving Instructors |
|---|---|
| Programs | Open Water Diver · Advanced Open Water Diver · Rescue Diver · Divemaster · Instructor Development · TecRec technical pathway · Freediver · Rebreather pathways |
| Strengths | Widest global and Australian recognition · Highly standardised course structure · Extensive materials in many languages · Largest number of Australian centres |
A PADI affiliation confirms that courses follow PADI standards and that certifications will be recognised. It says nothing about class sizes, equipment condition, instructor experience or how much time you will actually get in the water.
Two centres carrying the same logo can offer completely different experiences, which is precisely why this directory records capabilities per business rather than grouping centres by agency.
PADI's technical pathway runs from Tec 40 through Tec 50, Tec 65 and Trimix, and is one of several recognised technical routes available in Australia.
A centre displaying a PADI logo is not automatically a TecRec facility. Technical capability is a separate affiliation and should be verified independently.

Only centres where the affiliation is documented are listed. Many more teach this agency's courses without our having verified it.
