Wooli Dive Centre

Wooli Dive Centre provides access to the northern end of the Solitary Islands Marine Park, and its geography is its main advantage: it is the closest departure point to North Solitary Island.

That matters because North Solitary is the standout site in the marine park and a long run from Coffs Harbour. Departing from Wooli shortens the transit considerably, which means more time at the site and less exposure to sea conditions on the way out.

North Solitary sits furthest offshore in the northern part of the park and receives the strongest East Australian Current influence, giving it the most tropical character of the group. The anemone beds are the signature feature — dense fields of anemones with resident anemonefish that Visit NSW highlights specifically — alongside grey nurse sharks, leopard sharks, manta rays, turtles and substantial soft coral.

Current is a genuine factor. The site is exposed and frequently dived as a drift, which makes SMB deployment and comfort in moving water more relevant than certification level alone. It is not a site for a diver's first ocean experience.

Wooli itself is a small coastal village rather than a town with a tourism industry, which means the diving is the reason to be there and the operation is scaled accordingly.

Worth establishing: certification and experience requirements given the current; whether training is offered and at what levels; Nitrox availability; trip frequency and seasonality, since a small operation in a small village will not run daily year-round; and what equipment is available for hire. For anyone travelling specifically for North Solitary, allowing several days is sensible given the exposure of the site.

Wooli is genuinely small, with limited accommodation and services, and the operation runs at a scale to match. That is part of the appeal — North Solitary Island sees a fraction of the diver traffic that South Solitary does — but it means planning ahead rather than turning up.
