Dive Insurance for Australian Trips
How to compare emergency assistance, evacuation and equipment cover for local, interstate and overseas dive travel.

Travel insurance and dive-accident membership are not automatically the same product. Read what each policy covers at the depths, qualifications and trip format you intend to use.
The expensive part of an incident may be evacuation, remote transport or changed travel—not only chamber treatment.
Check recreational depth, technical diving, cave diving, rebreathers, professional activity and solo or freediving exclusions separately. Never infer cover from a generic adventure-sports label.
- maximum covered depth
- certification and supervision conditions
- search and rescue or evacuation
- hyperbaric treatment
- technical and overhead exclusions
Remote Australian trips can involve missed liveaboard departures, weather delays and costly regional flights. Cancellation and interruption terms may matter even when no dive accident occurs.
- weather and operator cancellation
- missed connections
- rental equipment
- owned equipment limits
- existing medical conditions
Keep certification, recent logs, policy documents and emergency contacts accessible without mobile reception. Photograph valuable equipment and retain serial numbers where possible.
Frequently asked questions
Does ordinary travel insurance cover scuba diving?
Sometimes, within stated depth and activity limits. Technical, professional or overhead diving often needs explicit cover.
Is evacuation covered?
It depends on the policy and assistance process. Confirm who must authorise transport and whether remote marine evacuation is included.
Does a dive operator's insurance cover me?
Do not assume it does. Operator liability cover is different from personal medical, evacuation, cancellation and equipment cover.
