The ex-HMAS Adelaide is a 138-metre Royal Australian Navy guided-missile frigate, scuttled on 13 April 2011 about 1.8 kilometres off Avoca Beach on the Central Coast to create an artificial reef.
She sits upright on sand in roughly 32 to 35 metres of water, with most of the interesting structure above 20 metres. Large access holes were cut into the hull at regular intervals, so the bridge, hangars and operations room can be reached along planned routes.
The wreck is a few minutes by boat from Terrigal Haven. Diving it requires a permit and access from a vessel with a mooring booking, which local operators arrange; they generally ask for Advanced certification.
