Port Douglas provides access to northern Great Barrier Reef locations and is a useful alternative for travellers staying north of Cairns.
The reefs reached from Port Douglas — particularly the Agincourt ribbon reef system — sit on the outer edge of the continental shelf, which generally means clearer water and better coral cover than inshore alternatives.
