Perth is Western Australia's primary centre for training, retail, servicing, gas, technical diving, club diving and Rottnest charters. It is also, in practice, the only substantial technical support hub in a state that spans 2,500 kilometres of coastline.
Local diving is built on limestone. The Perth coastline and its offshore reefs erode into ledges, caverns, swim-throughs and small walls rather than coral bommies, which produces genuinely interesting terrain at recreational depth.
Metropolitan shore diving is accessible and consistent, and the offshore reef systems within a short boat ride mean Perth divers rarely need to travel far for good diving.
